Nissan Going after Nissan.ai

Nissan is an automaker that uses NissanUSA.com for its website here in the US. The reason it uses an off-brand domain name is because it lost a very long legal battle to try and wrest control of Nissan.com. That domain name had long been owned by a man named Uzi Nissan, who had it for his business. You can read about the legal battle on Wikipedia. Mr. Nissan passed away in 2022.

It looks like Nissan is now trying to take control of another Nissan domain name. This time, the company has its sights set on Nissan.ai, and it is using the UDRP process. As you know, .AI is the ccTLD extension for the country of Anguilla, and it has become popular with the advancements in artificial intelligence and the venture funding devoted to AI-related companies.

Using AI For Background Image

I acquired a domain name last week, and once it transferred to GoDaddy, I set up a custom landing page using Carrd. Instead of buying a stock photo for its background image, I decided to test an AI image generator to save some money.

In my paid Chat GPT account, I searched for an image generator tool. I found the image generator tool created by Naif J. Alotaibi and gave it a whirl. Since the domain name is a French woman’s name in .com, this was the prompt that I used: “Create a realistic image of a woman in Paris looking out at the Eiffel Tower.” I made one additional tweak to ensure the woman was looking at the Eiffel Tower, and here’s the image that was created:

It’s All About the Time You Put into It

A few years ago, my wife jokingly described my daily work lifestyle as leisurely. In some ways, I thought of that as a badge of honor. I built my business in a way that gave me ample time during the day to run, play tennis, ride my bike, drive the kids after school, run errands, go out for lunch, and basically set my own schedule. I have time to do the things that I want and the things that help my family.

I sometimes think about a 2009 John Chow article and video about the “.com lifestyle” and it was something I hoped to emulate. I don’t really take many walks in the park or trips to the playground anymore, but my days are flexible. Quick sidebar – I stopped checking in on Chow’s videos when he (wrongly) declared domain investing dead in 2011.

Trenton Hughes posted a domain name question that drew more than 50 replies in the last two days. Trenton is launching a business called UnFounded Ventures, and he asked for feedback about which domain name he should use. The two domain name options, which he appears to already own, are UnFounded.CO and UnFoundedVentures.com:

My personal opinion is that he should go with the brand matching UnFoundedVentures.com domain name for the business website. There are several reasons for why I would choose this option.
