Confirmed: MLB Acquires Angels.com

The Angels.com domain name has been purchased by Major League Baseball, and Angels.com now redirects to the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim website. The domain name was purchased at the end of August for $200,000 at a Sedo auction.

In my opinion, this was a smart acquisition for the baseball team, and it was a smart sale for the owner, who hasn’t been able to monetize the traffic that was presumably mostly looking for tickets, baseball gear, and other baseball related products. In 2007, Major League Baseball filed a UDRP for Angels.com, but they lost the decision. According to an article written by Andrew, the team was offered the opportunity to purchase the domain name back then for around $300,000.

As you can see from a prior post about sports team domain name, most professional sports teams (and leagues) understand the value of owning the team .com domain name. (Big exception: Dallas Cowboys who still down’t own Cowboys.com).

According to the most recent Whois update, the domain name is owned by MLB Advanced Media, LP, and the domain name is registered at Corporation Service Company.

Get More Updates on Facebook: Edit News Feed Options

Facebook.I wanted to share something that I just learned about Facebook news feeds. I was wondering why there are certain friends whose posts and updates I never see, despite knowing that they do update their Facebook pages every so often. I hadn’t really paid much attention to the news feed options, but when I missed an important update from a friend, I  decided to look into it.

Apparently, Facebook chooses the friends whose posts you read in your news feed rather than showing all of your friends’ comments and updates. Since this is done by algorithm, it’s not really an exact science, and many of your friends’ news won’t show up on your page.

In order to allow all of your friends’ news and updates to show up, scroll to the bottom of the page and click on “Edit Options.” On this page, you’re given a list of people to block (everyone has friends who either have auto-posts or who constantly post game scores that you want to ignore.

To the left of this list is something that says: “Control how many friends you want shown in Live Feed. A higher number means you will see new posts more frequently.”  If you enter a very high number or the number of friends you have, everyone’s news updates will show up, with the exception of the people you block.

Now you’ll never miss an important update.

Bring on the Fall

I know this probably sounds strange, but I am excited for the Fall. Don’t get me wrong, I like the warm summer months, but being from the north, I love the colder months more. It also seems like people are more focused on business in the Fall and Winter than during the Summer.

This Summer has moved at a relaxing pace, and I believe things will pick up in a couple of weeks.

One thing you might want to do to pick up the pace is to reconnect with people who have either made offers to you to purchase a domain name, or you can recontact people that you have previously emailed to buy domain names. I’ve received a couple of emails in the last two days from people I had contacted a while back, so perhaps that’s indicitive of people looking to get back to business.

I also find that a second follow-up email on a domain inquiry can help move things along. Keep in mind that there are still people out there who don’t check email every day, and your email may have been read along with a bunch of others. Every few months, I look through my sent inquiries and see if there’s anything I want to reconnect on, and I follow up with an email or phone call.

The third quarter is in full swing, and we will soon be in the holiday season and end of the year, where people may value extra cash over non-performing domain names. Plant the seed now and work to make your next deal your best deal of the year.
