Just like Troy commented, I send people to the forums to post contests. The work is usually less expensive and still a decent quality. I forget the brand but I remember the slogan, when they compete you win. I think that's lending tree. But the same principle applies for development. You get a dozen or so designs to choose from with each designer putting their own twist on things. I love it! This is exactly what I tell others to do when looking for a logo. The quality is not as good as 99Designs, but it is significantly cheaper. I get plenty of logos for less than $30.
