Good Reason to Use the Registrant Search Tool

DomainTools, Legal News No Comments »

There have been some complaints within the domain community about the new Registrant Search Tool introduced by DomainTools.  Some people are afraid that information in the database could be used against them, and at this juncture, there isn’t an opt-out method.

There is one way in which the domain community can be helped by this tool: tracking a domain thief.  I recently read about a specific domain name that may be stolen.  By plugging the PO Box # and City from the Whois information, I can trace it to several other domain registrations.  Not only would this allow someone to contact the former owners of those names to possibly discover other thefts, it could also potentially allow someone to track the thief down based on names he already sold.

The expense is still too great for me to volunteer to do this, but if it were to be less expensive, it might be worth an effort.

Good Unregistered Names to Be Found

Generic Domain Names, New Registrations, Buying Domain Names 3 Comments »

I just found a couple decent names that were unregistered. I was able to register HMOCompanies.com and HMOCompany.com. Although there aren’t a ton of Google listings for these two names, there are advertisers on the top and side of Google. With some decent SEO, these names can possibly produce some valuable clicks.

Moral of the story: There are still good GENERIC domain names to be found out there without having to turn to the aftermarket. Keep on searching. Landing a decent new registration feels almost as good as reeling in a great one-worder in the aftermarket - with less financial risk.

Owen Frager in the News Again

Owen Frager, Domain Industry News No Comments »

Certainly seems that my friend Owen Frager has been making headlines alot lately. Here’s another column talking about Owen’s knack for generating tons of ideas that spiral from a single thought.

I think Owen is going to continue making headlines. He is truly a “thought leader.”

Red Sox Going to the World Series!!

Non-Domain Related No Comments »

I never doubted they wouldn’t make it. A quote from a post I made in a domain forum on October 17, when the Red Sox were losing the series 3-1 and a friend conceded the ALCS to the Indians:

“You gave up????? I will remember this when Beckett delivers tomorrow, Schilling shows up on Saturday and D-Mat and The Kid John Lester shut them down on Sunday. My only concern is that my parents are throwing Karen and me an engagement party on Sunday and I have a game to watch!!!

LETS GO RED SOX!!!”
