Just a quick clarification. When you say city.com, I know you mean say like dallas.com but what about metrodallas.com? Thanks.

Thanks for asking that. I want names like Dallas.com or Houston.com rather than DallasTexas.com

Another clarification please; how about a city like saint petersburg - do you want:
saintpetersburg.com or stpetersburg.com or does either qualify? Thanks.

Really depends on the city/name.

Elliot–as I just commented over on Frank’s blog as well, that’s going to be a tough one.
You might want to consider the next-best extension when it comes to US cities (since so many of the actual city government sites are .org’s; which is where many/most people expect the “official” city site to in any case be).
We’ve got Glendora.org; a nice city w/great demographics and psychographics in L.A. County; which we’ll let go for just 25k; price good for the remainder of 2007.

centreville.com
The “re” is correct. I like this domain because it could be used for multiple geo areas (see list below). E-mail me for traffic and earnings stats.
Centreville, AL (pop. 2466)
Centreville, IL (pop. 5951)
Centreville, MD (pop. 1970)
Centreville, MI (pop. 1579)
Centreville, MS (pop. 1680)
Centreville, VA (pop. 48661)
Great blog. I read it almost every day.

Hi Pat,
Thanks for sending the info to me. I am going to pass on this one as I want a larger city, but I approved your comment in case someone else is interested. I do think it’s a good name.

How about 281houston.com (area code for houston) or 832houston.com (area code in houston). That contains 10-digits for a tele number. Thanks

Hi Elliot,
Stephen Elliott Webb here from IamDomainNames.com.
Recent large and mid-size US cities/Media Companies have either purchased or leased from us the following:
Seattle -
IamSeattle.com/net
SanDiego Union Tribune -
WeAreSanDiego.com
Santa Monica Convention and Visitors Bureau -
IamSantaMonica.com
Savannah (News Organization To Be Disclosed Later) - WeAreSavannah.com
IamSavannah.com
WeAreFortWayne.com
IamFortWayne.com
We have 2 other California cities in negotiaitions for leases right now.
Traditional modes of thought are changing towards “intuitive phrases” like “IamThis.com” & “WeAreThat.com”. They hold tremendous marketing potential from the end-user’s standpoint. We are also in negotiations over 4 other product brand oriented names going to the end user. After all, if the “Iam/WeAre” concept in “WeAreDiamonds.com” is good enough for DeBeers, isn’t it good enough for the rest of us?
Thanks,
Stephen

Hi Elliot,
Have you had any bites? $50k for a domain of a city 50k plus… Shoot, that would be a DEAL! Another local city domain name (.com of course) was purchased for $50k nearly 10 years ago!!! Our city domain name generates your top offered amount through basic marketing and not even optimized. Thoughts or am I the crazy one? What do you think about AssociatedCities.com, I am sure that they found this article interesting.

Panama City is great. I was able to acquire Lowell.com - population 105,000. It’s the 4th largest city in Massachusetts. I’ve been chronicling the development on my blog. I intend to join Associated Cities. I think they have a great organization.
