TRAFFIC Auction Bummer
Moniker, TRAFFIC, Domain Auctions February 19th, 2008
I found a few names in tomorrow’s live TRAFFIC auction that I like, but apparently I won’t be able to bid on them online since I have a Mac Book with a Leopard OS. According to the Snapnames website’s online bidding requirements:
“Live Auction Software Requirements
Microsoft Windows operating system
Audio output
Internet Explorer 6.0 (or newer) or Firefox 2.0 (or newer)“
Kind of a bummer, but no big deal I suppose. Guess I should have thought about this earlier!

I agree - requiring Windoze is so lamo circa 1998 (maybe I’m a bit bummed because I can’t bid either).

Could install the latest Firefox for OSX just for the conference

I would think that these aftermarket outlets would do whatever they can do to draw bids.
A loss for them, their sellers, and buyers.

Hey Elliot -
I’ll second the Boot Camp suggestion, or download the trial of VMWare Fusion, and install Windows for a while as a virtual machine on the Mac. Works great for thirty days for free. If you know someone with Vista or XP, you can even install that as long as you don’t activate online. You get a month or so grace period.

Elliot, there is an app for Mac called Parallels that lets you run windows, linux and more. Here’s a link:

You live in NYC right? Head over to a web cafe. Fedex Kinkos offers 24 hour access and it’s probably just a few blocks away from you. You could also install a windows emulator on your crapple

Elliot, do you know anyone here at the show? Know them well enough for them to act as your proxy? I know the phone option is attractive, but I also know it was hard to hear for the low/no reserve auction last night. Just a thought.

I’ve got to say, my wife got a macbook for her new job and I’m not a fan (neither is she). I know you mac addicts love everything they create, but it seems like you still have to jump through hoops to use it. My verizon EVDO won’t work on it, and neither will several other applications. And don’t tell me Apple’s software isn’t buggy. Her keyboard kept locking up…until she download a patch. (This isn’t in defense of Wintel, mind you.)

I have installed VMWare Fusion and installed Windows XP on it, just for these reasons, and it works wonderful, especially when you need to install those Active-x controllers. Let me know if you need help with it.

I spent all weekend researching domains I wanted to bid on.. only to be disappointed that the auction software is for Windows only. Hopefully Snapnames/Moniker will release a Mac version for future auctions so we won’t have to “jump through hoops” to be able to bid.

It was the same for DomainFest. No Mac Access for bidding, and I received no reply from Snapnames when I queried ‘how to’ log in using Mac OSX. Given the low level of bidder participation at DomainFest, Snapnames cant afford to leave ANY potential bidder out in the cold. TRAFFIC may afford them a captive audience this time, but if they don’t ‘up their game’ wrt ease of access and bidder clarity, they will drag Moniker down.
