Photos: NASA Spot the Shuttle Over NYC

I know this isn’t related to the domain business, but I want to share a couple of photos I just took from the roof of my building.
The NASA Space Shuttle Enterprise is being flown on top of a specially customized 747 from Washington DC to New York City today, and it made a trip up the Hudson River past the Intrepid Sea, Air and Space Museum, where it will eventually be on display.

I took a few photos on its way up the Hudson with my iPhone, and they didn’t come out so well. I took these photos on its way back down the Hudson. It’s probably landing at JFK Airport as we speak.
What an awesome experience!

Great photos. Have been watching the coverage on the news this morning. The space shuttle is indeed a national treasure!

@ M
It was a very cool experience. The shuttle was flying very low and less than a mile away (basically 4 avenues away).

Awesome
I have a unreal photo of the plane with a shuttle atop leaving ellington AF base in Webster Tx near NASA taken by my uncle a professional photographer who was at the end of the runway standing in the Pasadena Landfill.
I get chills when I think of the many occasions over the years where we saw the double bird arriving and then visited the base as the shuttle carrier stopped enroute from CA. to Florida to give the NASA folks a visit.
One time we actually got to walk into and out of the plane while it was carrying the shuttle.

Those are awesome pictures. I have never seen the space shuttle in real life, but every time I see it on the back of that 747 I think it should be a lot bigger in order to fly into space.

Those are amazing – thanx for sharing! My Dad used to fly that same 747 as a co-pilot, before it got sold to NASA, so I’ll have to save your photos. Thanx!

It must have been exciting to watch it ferrying the shuttle down the Hudson from on top of your roof! Good thinking, to go up and take photos!

Awesome pics, Elliot! I beg to differ about this not being domain related! This shows one of the perks of working in the domain business from home, heh

I thought you submit your photo to the NY Times because they’re almost identical!
